4 ways to support women’s heart health

Sep 12th, 2018 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

Your heart races when you feel excited, slows when you relax, and beats steady and strong when you feel safe and loved. It’s your constant companion and the drumbeat to your life. Did you know that if you live to be 100 years old, your heart will have beaten about 3,786,978,960 times? That’s nearly 4 billion heartbeats!

Obviously, your heart works hard to care for you, so it’s important that you care for it. Learn how you can improve your cardiovascular health and why keeping your heart healthy is so important!

Eye-opening statistics about your heart

Unfortunately, many people don’t realize that cardiovascular disease and stroke are major women’s health risks; but knowledge is power and a critical part of healthy living! Consider the following:

Heart health tips

Before you get carried away worrying about the state of your heart, remember that there are lots of ways to care for yourself. Try these tips to help you better manage your cardiovascular health and show your heart some love!

1. Eat a heart-healthy diet

There are so many reasons to eat healthy, and your heart just got added to the list. When it comes to a heart-healthy diet, it’s important to trim unhealthy fats, high-sodium foods, and sugary drinks; but it’s also important to remember all the delicious things you can add to your diet.

Try incorporating these tasty and heart-healthy foods to your next meal, and remember that you can always use your favorite Vitality™ essential oils for extra flavor!

♦ Salmon, albacore tuna, and other fish high in omega-3 fatty acids

♦ Whole grains like steel-cut oats, brown rice, and whole-grain bread

♦ Fruits and vegetables—like our grilled zucchini!

2. Add Young Living’s CardioGize to your routine

Even when you work hard to care for your heart, you don’t always make the best decisions every single day. Supplement your heart-healthy choices with CardioGize™, a naturally derived supplement formulated to support healthy heart function and blood circulation.*

This supplement includes astragalus, dong quai, motherwort, and hawthorn berry, which have all been used traditionally to support the cardiovascular system. Plus, the deodorized garlic and CoQ10 in CardioGize also promote healthy circulation and have antioxidant properties.

3. Cultivate healthy habits

Habits big and small make a difference on your heart. Cultivate an attitude of overall wellness and incorporate these healthy choices into your daily routine.

♦ Get 6-8 hours of sleep per night to allow your body time to recover and recuperate. Use our 10 essential oil tips for your nightly routine to help your body get some much-needed rest and recovery.

♦ Stop smoking and tobacco use. Smoking makes you 2-4 times more likely to develop heart disease, and it keeps oxygen from your brain, increases your risk for blood clots, inhibits your ability to be physically active, and increases your heart rate and blood pressure.

♦ Avoid excessive alcohol use. You can always host a fun and festive Club Red party featuring NingXia Red® and Vitality oils!

4. Live an active lifestyle

Just like any other muscle, the best way to make your heart stronger is to work out. Whether you prefer high-intensity workouts or a slow burn, these tips can help keep your heart in tip-top shape.

♦ Get moving! Go for a run, bike ride, or swim to get your heart pumping. Not sure where to add a workout in your busy schedule? Try incorporating exercise into your day with our quick exercise tips for your everyday routine.

♦ Find ways to take stress off your body and your heart. In addition to working out, relax and unwind through yoga, meditation, or anything that helps you calm your body and mind. You can even try it at work with our sit-down, sweat-free Aroma Yoga.

With this heart health information, you’re better equipped to take the best care of your heart. Try adding one thing to your day to give your heart a boost, and remember that little changes can make a big difference!

DIY geode bath bombs

Sep 6th, 2018 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

We love the way geodes sparkle when the light hits the crystals inside. These DIY geode bath bombs feature that gorgeous gemstone glitz along with deep, rich colors and your favorite essential oils!

If you need a gift for a friend or loved one, or if you’re due for a bit of pampering, these on-trend bath bombs are a creative combination of sensuous skin-loving oils paired with an elegant, geologically inspired look.

Learn how to create these treasures!

Yield: 3-4 bath bombs

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup Epsom salt
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • ¼ cup citric acid
  • ¼ cup corn starch
  • ½ tablespoon water
  • ¾ cup coconut oil
  • Natural soap dye
  • 10 drops essential oil (see options below)
  • Round plastic bath bomb molds (ours are 80 mm across)

Instructions:

  1. Combine ¼ cup of Epsom salt, citric acid, corn starch, and baking soda. Stir well until completely incorporated.
  2. Add 1½ tablespoons of melted coconut oil, drops of essential oil, and ½ tablespoon of water to the mixture. Stir well.
  3. Pack contents into your mold, creating a thin layer across half the sphere, with more concentrated at the base. Let dry for 1 hour.
  4. Separate the remaining Epsom salt into three bowls. Using soap dye, dye one bowl a darker shade, one bowl a medium shade, and one bowl a light shade.
  5. Beginning with the lightest shade, spoon some Epsom salt into the middle of the bath bomb. Drizzle melted coconut oil on the salt, and spread it across the bath bomb to create a thin layer. Repeat with the middle shade. Finish with the darkest shade, leaving space in the middle; a slightly more concave shape makes it look more like a real geode!
  6. Place the bath bomb mold in the fridge for 4 hours to set. Pop it out of the mold, drop one into your bath, and soak into bliss!

Note: Keep your bath bombs cool, especially in warmer weather, as the coconut oil will cause them to separate. Also, the coconut oil that makes these geode bath bombs so luxurious can also leave your bath feeling a bit slippery, so please be aware the next time you step in!

9 essential oils that make you feel luxurious

Sep 4th, 2018 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

Looking to indulge in some of the world’s finest fragrances and most beautiful botanicals? This list of our nine most luxurious essential oils showcases what makes each one oh-so worth the investment. Take your day from blah to ooh la la with a drop or two of indulgence from Mother Nature’s finest!

1. Rose Essential Oil

What makes it luxurious

Roses have stood as symbols of love, romance, and beauty for thousands of years. Richly perfumed Rose essential oil is made by steam distilling crushed flower petals, resulting in an elixir that can be used in everything from fine perfumes to skin care products. Did you know that 22 pounds of flower petals go into every 5-ml bottle of our Rose essential oil? Imagine filling your whole bathtub with fresh, fragrant rose petals!

How to indulge

You may not be able to bathe in a tub full of rose petals, but just a drop or two of Rose essential oil in a hot bath will have you looking through rose-colored glasses. Whip up your own signature rosy perfume, or stop and smell the roses by diffusing a little Rose oil with Bergamot, Lavender, or Neroli.

2. Melissa Essential Oil

What makes it luxurious

Melissa—also known as lemon balm—has a cheery lemon scent with grassy undertones. Melissa essential oil is made from the leaves and buds harvested from the Melissa officinalis plant, which only blooms in the summer. Melissa essential oil is rare because the melissa plant is not commonly grown in North America. However, Young Living grows and distills melissa right on our farm in St. Maries, Idaho.

How to indulge

Melissa is bright and fresh and pairs well in essential oil blends with Lemon and other citrus oils. Capture its happy aroma in a custom perfume, or indulge each evening by adding it to your facial moisturizer and other beauty products.

3. Neroli Essential Oil

What makes it luxurious

Neroli essential oil is extracted from orange blossoms, which are picked by hand to preserve the delicate petals for steam distillation. This process creates a striking combination of floral and citrus in a scent that’s both playful and sophisticated. Rich and intoxicating, yet summery and cheerful, Neroli’s scent has been prized since ancient times for its bright and uplifting notes.

How to indulge

Drift away on a coastal-inspired dream by diffusing Neroli with Sacred Sandalwood, Citronella, and Citrus Fresh™. Put a few drops of the delicate, honeyed scent in your moisturizer, lotion, or shampoo for a daily pick-me-up.

4. Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood™ Essential Oil

What makes it luxurious

Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood essential oil is steam distilled from sandalwood trees that have reached maturity, which is when the oil concentrates are at their highest. This produces an oil with a gentle, calming, woodsy aroma that deepens with a nutty richness when applied topically. Our Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood comes from the Kona Sandalwood Reforestation Project on the island of Hawaii, making our harvesting and distilling a sustainable practice.

How to indulge

Use Royal Hawaiian Sandalwood as part of your anti-aging skin care regimen to promote the appearance of younger-looking skin, or support your spiritual practice of meditation or yoga by adding a few drops to your diffuser. Add a drop or two of this silky oil to your DIY lotions and hair masks to quench dryness—and your appetite for an island getaway.

5. Blue Tansy Essential Oil

What makes it luxurious

Known mostly for its use in luxury beauty products, Blue Tansy essential oil is made from thousands of small yellow flowers harvested off the coast of the Mediterranean. With skin-cleansing benefits and an aroma that deepens over time when worn on the skin, Blue Tansy has an earthy, hay-like scent reminiscent of chamomile.

How to indulge

Blue Tansy makes your nightly bath routine a steamy extravagance with its calming scent and extra dose of moisture. However, it can dye your skin blue if undiluted.  After a workout, combine Blue Tansy and Copaiba with a carrier oil and massage onto tired muscles. Diffuse Blue Tansy with Geranium, Lavender, and Jade Lemon to encourage a rejuvenating and positive atmosphere.

6. Frankincense Essential Oil

What makes it luxurious

Frankincense essential oil has long been prized for its empowering aroma, especially for use during religious ceremonies. Mentioned in the Bible and the Ebers Papyrus, an ancient Egyptian scroll from approximately 1500 BCE, Frankincense has been traded on the Arabian Peninsula for over 5,000 years.

How to indulge

Bring some pampering to your quiet moments with this sweet, earthy, honey-like scent. Diffuse its rich, stimulating fragrance during your morning routine, or add it directly to your face serum to promote youthful, healthy-looking skin.

7. Myrrh Essential Oil

What makes it luxurious

Popular anciently in Middle Eastern incense and perfumes, Myrrh essential oil is now widely prized for its beautifying properties and inspiring fragrance. Known most commonly for its prevalence in the Bible and other religious texts, Myrrh oil comes from the resin of the Commiphora plant, a fragrant, flowering bush that is found in Madagascar, India, Vietnam, and on the Arabian Peninsula.

How to indulge

Don your finest eye mask and create a spa-like experience by whipping up our DIY essential oil-infused foot bath with a few drops of Myrrh essential oil. Its earthy, calming aroma makes for a sweet end to a stressful day. You can also add a few drops of Myrrh to your shampoo or conditioner for added moisture.

8. Helichrysum Essential Oil

What makes it luxurious

Helichrysum essential oil comes from small, delicate flowers native to the Mediterranean. Its warm and woodsy scent offers a welcoming and uplifting environment. Known to some as the “Immortal Flower,” Helichrysum is a common ingredient in skin care regimens.

How to indulge

Harness Helichrysum’s power by applying 2-4 drops directly onto your skin during your morning or evening skin care routine. Diffuse the oil with Frankincense or Clary Sage to capitalize on its rich and complex aroma. The soothing fragrance is sure to become a regular part of your self-care routine.

9. Cistus Essential Oil

What makes it luxurious

Cistus essential oil comes from the resin of the fragrant rockrose bush, which is believed to be the biblical Rose of Sharon. The sweet yet herbaceous aroma has been used as incense and in perfumes for centuries.

How to indulge

Make your own perfume featuring Cistus and essential oils such as Sandalwood and Frankincense, or apply the oil directly to your wrists and temples before meditation to support feelings of clarity. Our Beginner’s Guide to Meditation will start you off on the right path.

Where to apply essential oils on your body

Aug 29th, 2018 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

Anytime you apply, rub, or massage essential oils into your skin, your experience starts with sensory receptors. These receptor cells are all over your body, and they do some pretty powerful stuff. Let’s talk about what these human body receptors are and why they’re so amazing!

What is a receptor, and how does it work?

Receptors are protein molecules that have binding sites on them for different types of molecules. When an external molecule finds a binding site it fits in, it communicates with your brain through electrical signals. These signals can go to your muscles, organs, or—in the case of your olfactory receptors—the amygdala, which is involved in the emotions you experience.

Some familiar receptors are your taste buds. When you eat, the food or drink interacts with saliva, and molecules bind to the taste receptors in your mouth. These receptors come in contact with nerve cells, which communicate a particular flavor to your brain.

Another example of receptors in action is Cool Azul™ Pain Relief Cream. When you apply it to your skin, it triggers receptors and sends cooling signals to the brain. That’s why you can feel the tingling sensation all over your skin! Learn more about how this over-the-counter cream works in our video “The Science Behind Young Living’s Cool Azul Pain Relief Cream.”

Your body has these amazing receptors all over, so there are plenty of places you can apply essential oils. Check out our handy infographic below to see where you can get started!

Answers to your most-asked essential oil questions

Aug 27th, 2018 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

Whether you’re an expert essential oiler or just starting out, there’s a lot of information on essential oils that can seem overwhelming. We’re here to answer some of our top essential oil questions, so you can feel confident about using oils in your home!

1. Is it safe to share essential oils with my dogs or cats?

You can safely and effectively share essential oils with your furry friends, but not all oils are beneficial for your precious pets.* We recommend avoiding high-phenol oils such as Oregano, Wintergreen, Clove, Mountain Savory, and Thyme. Make sure you read the label on the back for directed usage—topical, aromatic, or ingested as a dietary supplement. Young Living also offers a full line of animal-specific products, including essential oil blends made just for animals, cat treats, dental pet chews, and Animal Scents® Shampoo. Click here to find something your pets will love!

Find out how to maximize and safely use Young Living products for your animals here.

2. Are essential oils still effective and safe if they’ve been left in the heat?

It’s best to store your essential oils in a cool, dry place. UV exposure will cause the greatest damage to the oil’s constituents, and combining heat exposure with light exposure will negatively affect your oils more quickly.

If your delivery package is sitting in the heat for several hours but the oils are not directly exposed to UV rays, the oils will not be compromised. If the oil is hot, cool it before using.

3. From where are Young Living essential oils sourced?

All Young Living oils are sourced from our corporate-owned farms, partner farms, or Seed to Seal®-certified suppliers. Whether you’re using our calming Lavender essential oil from Mona, Utah, or enjoying the fresh scent of Dorado Azul™ essential oil from Ecuador, rest assured that you’re getting the highest quality essential oils.

Our Seed to Seal commitment ensures that your family can enjoy the benefits of our global resources, industry leadership, and innovation through Young Living products.

4. What do the colors on the essential oil bottle labels mean?

The label color on the single essential oil bottles corresponds with the color of the plant from which the oil was derived. For example, Lavender essential oil comes from a purple flower, so the color of the Lavender bottle label is purple. The color and plant association does not apply to every single essential oil or to the blends, but we try to stick close to that design idea.

Did you know that you can determine which essential oils are safe to ingest by their label color? Vitality essential oils always have white labels and are marked as Vitality, so you can confidently ingest them!

5. Which essential oils are photosensitive? Can they burn my skin?

Some single essential oils and blends can cause photosensitivity and may cause burns if you are exposed to sunlight after applying the oil directly to your skin. Some of our most popular oils that fit this category are Lemon, Grapefruit, Bergamot, Peace Calming®, Citrus Fresh™, and Joy™. There are also risks associated with other oils. Read the caution label on the back of every oil, so you can experience their fantastic benefits to the fullest!

Learn more about photosensitive oils and how to safely use them here!

6. How should essential oils be stored?

Tightly seal your essential oil bottles and store them upright in a dark, dry location around 72 degrees Fahrenheit. Make sure the oils are stored in a location where the temperature will remain consistent.

7. How can essential oils benefit my health?

Essential oils contain many properties that benefit your overall wellness. Did you know that Grapefruit Vitality™ can help support weight management, Cedarwood helps maintain healthy-looking skin, and Lavender promotes a calm feeling? We also have essential oils that aid digestion like Peppermint Vitality™, provide an uplifting aroma like Valor®, and contain relaxing, comforting properties like Ylang Ylang. There are numerous essential oil benefits that you can experience for yourself!

Now that you’ve learned a bit about essential oils, discover 36 ways to use them on our blog!

Whether you’re creating new blends that remind you of your favorite places or firing up your old standbys like Lavender, Lemon, or Peppermint to create a familiar aromatic ambiance, chances are your Young Living diffuser puts in a lot of hours. How to clean your ultrasonic diffuser

(for use with the Aria™, Rainstone™, Dewdrop™, Desert Mist™, Lantern, and other diffusers with an ultrasonic plate)

  2. Fill the water reservoir halfway to the fill line with filtered water.
