A number of factors can contribute to osteoporosis, but according to the Mayo Clinic, here are some of the most common:
1. Family tree:If you have family, like a sibling or parent, with osteoporosis, you are more likely to have the disease yourself.
2. Years old: Even though young people can get osteoporosis, it is more prevalent among people 50 years and older.
3. Small frames: Women and men with small body frames, because they have less bone mass to lose, are at higher risk for osteoporosis due to decrease in bone mass over time.
4. Insufficient calcium intake:A lack of calcium across a lifetime can cause a lack of bone density.
5. Lack of exercise:Those who tend to sit all day, like at desk jobs, or who don’t exercise enough are more prone to osteoporosis.

Scrub a dub, exfoliate in the tub—or just about anywhere you wash! The only thing more fun than making these exfoliating DIY loofah soaps is using them. Place a couple by the sink for a refreshing hand wash or keep a few in the shower for smoother, more radiant skin from shoulders to heels!
Here’s how to craft your own DIY loofah soaps with essential oils—soft skin is only a few ingredients away!
Yield: About 15 soaps
Ingredients:
3 natural loofah sponges about 5-6 inches long each
2 pounds clear glycerin soap
Soap dye
Essential oils—see our suggestions below
Round silicone molds about 3 inches in diameter
Instructions:
1. Cut the loofah sponge into 1-inch-wide disks and place in the mold, lying flat.
YL tip: Tie a string around your loofah before you place it in the mold. The string allows you to hang it from a hook in your shower, so you never drop the soap again!
2. Cut the glycerin soap into about 1-ounce squares. Put 2 squares in a microwavable bowl and microwave on high for 30 seconds or until melted.
YL tip: Two squares make 1 soap. To make larger batches, melt more soap and add the proper amount of oil and dye to keep the ratios the same. We like making individual soaps so we can customize scents and colors.
3. Add 3-4 drops of soap dye and 3-4 drops of your favorite essential oil to the melted glycerin soap. Mix well.
4. Pour the glycerin soap mixture into the mold, fully covering the loofah sponge.
5. Repeat until all the loofahs are covered with glycerin soap. Let them dry for 2-3 hours, pop the soaps out of the mold, and lather up!
Why exfoliate?
When exfoliating, you’re removing the layer of dead skin cells sitting on top of your skin. Once those are gone, the lower layers can come to the surface, brightening the appearance of your skin.
But it’s about more than healthier-looking skin. Removing that layer of dead cells helps the skin better absorb products like serums and lotions. For silky-smooth skin, exfoliate 2-3 times a week and follow the treatment with a rich moisturizer like our Coconut-Lime Replenishing Body Butter. The combination of exfoliation and moisturization will help revitalize and rejuvenate the appearance of even the driest skin!
YL tip: The loofahs in these soaps are great exfoliators for your body, but they are too powerful for the delicate skin on your face. Leave that to our Satin Facial Scrub™!
Fun fact about loofahs
Wondering why we can use the term “all-natural” when talking about these exfoliation masters? It’s because they grow on trees!Loofahs, or luffas, are the product of the fully ripened fruit of the L. aegyptiaca or L. acutangula trees—a loofah a day keeps the dry skin away!
Sudsy scents we love
Each DIY loofah soap calls for 3-4 drops of essential oil, so keep the blends simple. You can also scent your soaps with just one essential oil for a nice concentration of your favorite smell. If you like to mix and match oils, here are a few ideas:
If you love nothing more than relaxing in a nice, hot bath, try this DIY bubble bath next time you slip in for a soak. To make bath time more fun for kids, enlist the help of our DIY essential oil bath jellies.

We’ve shared tons of fun diffuser blends, with scents that fit every mood, day, and situation—a pumpkin pie scent for the holidays, a beachy combination for summer days, a playful aroma for kids, and even a diffuser blend for every state.
Want to know the secret to creating unique, personalized scents? Follow our guide to custom diffuser blends and experiment with your favorite essential oils!
Getting started
Become a diffuser blend master by covering the basics with these frequently asked questions:
How many drops of essential oil should I put in my diffuser?
In YL diffusers, our recommendations range from 5-25 drops per blend, so adjust to your diffuser’s instructions.
If you like subtler scents, ease up on the number of drops. If the instructions call for 6-8 essential oil drops, start with 5 and work your way to stronger scents.
How many different oils can I use?
The possibilities are endless! There are so many scent combinations waiting to be discovered. If you find a blend you like that is 1 drop each of 10 oils, go for it! We usually stick to 3-5 oils per blend, but what matters most is your personal preference.
Can I use any of my essential oils in my diffuser?
Though most oils are ideal for aromatic use, we recommend following the instructions on the label of your essential oil bottle before you fill your surroundings with sensational scents.
Creating custom diffuser blends
New to diffusing? Start with an oil that has an aroma you already love. Obsessed with Lavender? Diffuse it on its own to enjoy the sweet floral scent, and then use it as the framework for creating new combos.
Now it’s time to get creative!
Perfect pairs: Start with tried and true combos
Choose essential oils you use frequently, like a group of citruses or florals. Go with classic pairings like these:
You’ll learn quickly which scents you prefer, so you can start experimenting with more variations. To venture out further into the essential oil blend world, see our mix-and-match infographic to create more delectable pairings.
Terrific trios . . . and beyond: How to experiment
After you’ve found your perfect pair, pick a third oil to add.
Bypass the trial-and-error phase so you don’t waste any of your precious essential oils by doing the smell test before diffusing. Choose some oils you think would be great together, remove the lids, hold them in one hand, and waft them beneath your nose to get a sense of what they smell like together.
To find the right ratios, bring one oil closer to your nose and move others farther back. The one that’s closest will be the oil with the most drops in your diffuser blend. The ones farther away will require fewer drops in the mix.
If you like the combination, get diffusing! If it’s not quite right, switch out one or more of the oils until you find the perfect blend.
YL tip: Balancing scents
Some essential oils have stronger scents than others—Basil, Black Pepper, Nutmeg, and Cinnamon Bark have powerful aromas. Keep scents like these from overpowering your blend by adding just a drop or two.

If you’re like most of us at Young Living, Peppermint essential oil is already one of your favorites. Whether you’re looking for a burst of fresh fragrance, an energizing early-morning diffuser blend, or a cooling addition to a foot rub at the end of the day, a few drops of Peppermint always seem to do the trick. Just in case you need a few more reasons to love this shivery sweetheart, here are 20 uses for Peppermint oil to try!
1. Chill out after a long day. Dilute 1 drop of Peppermint with 4 drops of V-6™ or another carrier oil; then rub on the temples, forehead, and back of the neck. Be careful to avoid your eyes! You’ll feel a soothing, cooling sensation, courtesy of the constituents menthol and menthyl acetate.
YL tip: Can you put Peppermint oil directly on the skin?
Peppermint is a “hot” oil, which means it creates a warming sensation on the skin when it’s applied undiluted. We recommend starting out using Peppermint diluted 1:4 with a carrier oil. If you want to use it undiluted, do a patch test of 1 drop to see how it feels on your skin. If you experience a reaction to the oil, dilute the oil with a 1:4 ratio of carrier oil and try another patch test.
2. Soothe sun-kissed skin.Cool skin after a day in the sun by adding a few drops each of Peppermint and Lavender to aloe vera gel.
3. Freshen carpets. Make a carpet powder with 1 cup of baking soda and 20-30 drops of essential oil. We love the purifying scent of Kunzea with Peppermint’s bright aroma.
4. Add Cool Azul™ to your cool-down. Peppermint is a main ingredient in the Cool Azul line of products! Massage tired muscles with Cool Azul Sports Gel after a tough workout.
5. Find your focus.Fill your office or study space with energizing aromas by diffusing this blend when it’s time to buckle down on a project.
6. Refresh while you rehydrate. Add a few drops of Peppermint Vitality™ to your water bottle for an extra refreshing zing. We recommend 1-2 drops for every 16 ounces of water.
YL tip: Can you drink Peppermint oil in your water?
Peppermint Vitality™ is labeled for internal use, so it is a great addition to your daily water intake.
7. Sweeten your breath. Put a drop of Peppermint Vitality™ on your tongue to freshen your breath and get rid of any trace of those garlic-flavored kale chips you ate with lunch!
8. Find balance. Diffuse this grounding blend whenever your mind needs clarity, such as during moments of spiritual study or meditation.
9. Stimulate your scalp. Add 3 drops of Peppermint to your shampoo in the morning and massage into your scalp for 2 minutes for a brisk way to start the day.
10. Remix your favorite recipes. Use Peppermint Vitality™to add a refreshing twist to a pitcher of lemonade.

14. Create a cooling chest rub. Mix a drop of Peppermint with a small amount of V-6 and rub it onto your chest for a cooling sensation and fresh fragrance.
15. Cool off on a hot day. When the temperature’s climbing and you feel like melted ice cream on a hot sidewalk, add two drops of Peppermint to a cold, damp washcloth. It’s perfect for the back of your neck, your forehead, or your chest.
16. Refresh musty rooms. Invite a fresh aroma into your home with a breezy diffuser blend.

20. Breathe in the aroma straight from the bottle. Whatever less-than-amazing smells you’re faced with, just open your trusty bottle of Peppermint and take a deep breath. The chilly aroma will chase away almost any unpleasant scent.

From aromatherapy to workout recovery, you can use essential oils in some pretty cool ways. Geranium reduces the appearance of fine lines, Lemon essential oil is perfect in DIY garbage disposal fresheners, Lavender oil promotes feelings of calm and relaxation, and our VitalityTM essential oils spice up your cooking. Pure essential oils are an important part of any routine, whether you’re talking skin care, cleaning, relaxation, or overall wellness. To help ensure your day is free of oil-related mishaps, we’re answering your questions about whether essential oils stain clothes and other fabrics.
Q: Do essential oils stain?
A: Other than the exceptions listed below, pure essential oils do not stain. Because they are volatile, the oil evaporates without leaving a grease stain on clothes or fabrics like you could get from a drop of carrier oil. Young Living’s pure essential oils don’t leave a greasy mark.
Q: Which essential oils stain?
A: Though pure essential oils don’t leave an oily spot, a handful of oils can leave a stain due to the naturally occurring darker or yellowish coloring from the original botanicals. So be careful using these essential oils around your favorite white layering tee or Grandma’s heirloom linens.
A: Applying any
of these oils directly on white fabric will leave a stain—which is okay if
you’re trying a new tie-dye project. If tinting your t-shirt isn’t the plan,
avoid doing the following with these oils:
Applying directly to the skin and then putting on
clothes before the oil absorbs
Adding to your laundry
Spilling on clothes or other fabrics
Q: How can I use the darker-colored oils?
A: While it’s true that these essential oils have potential to stain, their bottles are full of powerful benefits. If used with care, you—not your clothes—will be golden! Here are a few ways you can use darker-colored oils:
Add a drop of Blue Tansy to your moisturizer to dilute its color and help reduce the appearance of blemishes.
Diffuse Jasmine to fill your home with a rich, sultry aroma.
Combine German Chamomile with our V-6TM Vegetable Oil Complex to enhance your massage.
FYI, these oils may stain your diffuser depending on the oil and the amount you use. Be sure to clean your diffuser after each use; check out this post for some helpful tips!
BTW, some of your favorite blends include darker oils that could stain, like Peace Calming® and Valor®. Remember to read the labels before adding them to your laundry!
