DIY: Holiday-Scented Gifts with Essential Oils

Nov 27th, 2013 | Category: Young Living Product Blog

There’s nothing quite like walking into a room and being immersed in the familiar and captivating aroma of evergreen boughs and peppermint to spark a flood of warm holiday memories.

Help make your home more inviting during the holiday season by creating seasonal aromas with essential oils. The following scents and do-it-yourself tips are a great way to help build new holiday traditions.

Ideas for Holiday Scents

The seasonal collections in the 2013 Holiday Catalog make excellent gifts. Use them to create a customized holiday scent:

The Holiday Balance Mini Oils Collection includes Idaho Blue Spruce, Lavender, and Citrus Fresh

The Essence of the Season Collection features Frankincense, Myrrh, and Christmas Spirit™ essential oils, plus frankincense and myrrh resins, which can be used in our Resin Burner.

Fill your home with the holiday spirit using the Aria Ultrasonic Diffuser, which, for a limited time only, includes a free 5-ml Christmas Spirit™ and Peppermint.

Holiday Gift and Sharing Tool Ideas

Sharing a steaming cup of wassail with friends and family is a great way to celebrate the holiday season. The Wintertime Wassail Collection  includes all you need to make this festive beverage, including  5-ml bottles of Cinnamon Bark, Clove, and Tangerine essential oils; a wassail recipe card; and a 16-ounce mug set in a gift box.

The Holiday Sharing Collection includes sample packs of Lavender, Lemon, Thieves™, Peppermint, and Peace Calming® and is a perfect Christmas sharing tool. You can also create your own holiday gifts using Young Living products.

One thoughtful and inexpensive holiday sharing tool is to give essential oil-scented pine cones. Try these do-it-yourself tips for Pine Cone Fire Starters and Scented Pine Cones:

Pine Cone Fire Starters

Melt wax in a double boiler and add a few drops of any number of seasonal smelling essential oils. If you’d like a little color, add a crayon to the melting wax. Dip the cones in the wax using tongs and place them on foil to dry. Put them in a basket or mesh satchel, add a bow, and voilà, a delightful gift!

Scented Pine Cones

  1. Wash pine cones to clean off sap and any hitchhiking critters.
  2. Bake for an hour at 200° F on an aluminum foil-covered baking sheet.
  3. Spray the pine cones with essential oil-infused water using the Wintertime Wassail Collection or your own custom blend of oils. You can also sprinkle drops of essential oils directly on the pine cones. Let dry and you’re done!

Scented pine cones can be used to make wreaths and garlands. You can also screw a small eyelet hook to the bottom of a scented pine cone to make Christmas ornaments.
